Sessions

Eric, Evan, and I met at Matt's house at 7AM. An early Saturday, but we'd been promised breakfast. By 7:45 we were riding - my stomach a bit too full. Zipping through the neighborhoods got us to our trailhead earlier than I'd hoped. Not feeling ready for the day ahead, I fell in line behind Matt and Eric, with Evan just behind me. We climbed up from the mouth of City Creek to the radio towers near Ensign Peak quickly, Matt and Eric ahead and out of sight as usual.

The plan is to ride the Sessions Mountains trail - as Matt and I've done each of the two years before - but to complete the trip as a loop this time. Of course, we've yet to complete it as planned even the "easy" way.

As we ride through Bountiful and past the Mormon Temple, Matt's new tire is pierced by a nail - in one side and out the other. The Mormon God is unhappy with Matt. The rest of us hang back, this isn't our fight.

And then without serious incident, our plan worked. We finished the whole thing. I mean, stuff happened in the middle. But you wouldn't understand. A miracle or two - we carried on without enough water, bypassing our last option to fill up, and then happened upon a five gallon jug of water left behind for the Wasatch 100 runners a few weeks before. The storm clouds only grazed us slightly, and we avoided lighting on the Lookout Peak ridge.

We coasted into Matt's driveway at 5PM having ridden 50 Miles with 9000 feet of climbing.
